Another Big Battle

May ended with another big battle drawing (May 31), this one on a large manila envelope found abandoned (and previously used) in the recycling. The drawing can be seen at both a smaller and a larger size.

Carla, visiting from San Diego, says, "A Godzilla drawing. And the Hulk." But the figure confronting the scientist-looking character in the foreground is not green, although he is large. And tusks grow from his nostrils.

Redreaming and a Big Battle

Add three forgotten drawings – "Atlantic Legion" (Mar. 16), "Redream One" (Mar. 21), and "Redream Two" (Mar. 22) – to March.

"Atlantic Legion" depicts a big battle about to begin.

The two "Redreams" reconstruct the first two pages of a dream comic from June 2002.

Do Those Come in a Smaller Size?

Add "Big Gloves" (Jun 1) and "Daniel Kesserich" (Jun 2).

Daniel Kesserich is the title character in a short novel by Fritz Leiber. He suffers from the effects of an experimental time-travel device that thickens his presence in time.

The Big Gloves crackling with power are those worn by the scientist-looking character in the foreground of the drawing for May 31. The little guy in the space suit is also from the foreground of that picture.

Discover an overlooked drawing (of a party of Canadian superheroes) from the 2006 series and add to Shorts 2006 (Feb. 18). From the left the depicted characters are: Nelvana of the Northern Lights; the Dreamer; the unfortunately named Thunderfist; Nitro speaking with an apparently female incarnation of the Brain; Mr. Monster; the Polka-Dot Pirate; and the Penguin.

One More Short

One more short for March: Another Sleeve.

Part of a series of drawings devoted to different parts of clothing.

Two More Shorts

Also added Passerby (Mar. 29) and Pointillism (Mar. 30).

The second drawing depicts an event taking place at the Eli Klein Gallery on West Broadway in New York. Wine and cheese were being served. The paintings were based on photographs in Chinese newspapers.

The first drawing depicts the final night's party at Passerby, a bar on West 15th Street in New York. Splendid dancing and drinking took place in the back space, formerly the location of Gavin Brown's Enterprise, another art gallery.

Stephen Britt writes to say that visitor's could still enter the bar, to see its fabled remains, on the following day.

Four More Shorts

Recently added Painting (Mar. 24), Literary Quotes (Mar. 25), Candidates (Mar. 26), and Rush Robot (Mar. 27) – four more for the shorts for March.

The first drawing features Anna Eisler and is a tribute if not to the eponymous Japanese book store then to a particular visit to that store. The second depicts some art by Ellsworth Kelly. In the third an artist, not Kelly, suddenly loses his painting arm – alarming a bird and some butterflies. In the fourth, everyone, even the robot dog, wears a cape because it's that kind of day.

Richard Prince Comic

Reading through Richard Prince: Jokes and Cartoons. Inside Prince collects several old cartoons depicting the same situation but with their captions removed. Possibly against the spirit of his gesture, this imitation of Feb. 12 fills in the blank.

"Structure" belongs to the Sol LeWitt group. "Unexpected" belongs to the zombie series and also to the breakfast and sleeping series. "In Transit" is a train drawing and a record of ordinary language. "Red Chair" is a black and white drawing of a red chair and belongs to the colors series. "Hibernator" is part of the sleeping group. "Concerned Alien" is the first of three concerned (alien) drawings, i.e., drawings or short comics having to do with the grammar of concern. "Demigod" shows an example of the convention of different degrees of "godness" being shown at different sizes. The more powerful the god, the bigger he appears in the picture.

Shorts is a series of web comics and drawings, one for nearly every day of the year.

Who Is the Real Panzo?

The affable dessinateur discloses himself. But is this humble face that of the real Panzo — or merely another ploy, a distraction deposited by inspired conspirators off-stage and out of the frame? Stay tuned.
